A word from Chris and Lindy Hill …

We are delighted to present you with four wonderful opportunities to visit Israel in 2009. Each enables you to be captivated by the world of the Bible! What will it be - 11, 13 or 15 days? The choice is yours!

2008 marked the 28th year of our tour leading. It is cause for celebration that through those years the Lord in His grace has enabled us to take nearly 80 tours and something approaching 3500 people to Israel! This delights us no end because we know that the lives of many of those people have been transformed through having a richer, fuller understanding of the Bible and a deeper walk with the Lord. A steady stream of letters of appreciation confirms this. We've included a selection of quotes from members of recent groups further on in the brochure. They're all genuine! Honest!

During 2009, we provide you with four wonderful opportunities to tour with us. Our Flagship Tour in March offers 15 days to bask in the glories of the Land and include Petra, cruising on the Red Sea and exploring its tropical marine life, crossing the Negev Desert both by luxury touring coach and by plane. Marvels await you on our 15-day Flagship Tour and you will have time to relax in some of the most beautiful places on earth. Needless to say our 11 and 13 day tours, though a little shorter, are no less wonderful! It is significant that many tour group members who have been with us before are now third, fourth and even fifth timers! That speaks for itself! Our Guide is Batya ten Brink, who has guided us for our last 49 tours! Batya is an excellent Guide and a long-standing friend.

We are blessed with fine tour administrators, Barry and Carol Brown. They have been able to search carefully for the best tour agents, providing you with peace of mind and allowing you to enjoy considerable financial benefits. We have never felt it right to offer budget tours: the quality of hotels we use is very high (4 star-plus) but never pretentious and our luxury coach provides comfortable, air-conditioned travel throughout.

By any standard our Itineraries are full, but Lindy and I have a lot of experience through leading our many Israel tours, and we have learned a thing or two about pacing them so that we are never rushed. You will appreciate that we reserve the right to alter the Itinerary if local conditions dictate that we should.

The accent in our tours is on authentic Bible sites rather than churches, except where the two coincide! People of all ages are welcome, but a reasonable level of fitness is required if you intend to explore all the sites we visit. We need to move as a group, so it is important to keep together. Failure to do this might mean the loss of a programmed site if it has been booked in advance. When we encounter longer walks, uneven ground or climbs, members of the group not so able can still enjoy the area but will be expected to stay closer to the coach.

Cover prices include Half-board accommodation (Breakfast and Evening Dinner), all tours and all tips for the Israelis who serve us, including the Guide and Driver. Compare our prices with other Israel tours, and you will discover that C L Bible Tours are not the cheapest around. But there are several reasons for this. If you examine the details, you will find that many others expect you to make additional payments for tips and also for tours they describe as "optional", but which turn out to be essential if you are to have a comprehensive visit. Lindy and I decided long ago that we should not indulge in that kind of commercialism. With our tours, everything is "up front". We seek to honour the Lord by operating with complete integrity.

The political situation in Israel is always sensitive, but rest assured that every moment we are in the country Batya, our Israeli Guide, is instantly reachable by our Israel Agents via mobile telephone so that if any alterations to our route plan are required they are put into effect immediately. Obviously we do not go anywhere near trouble spots. We are not stupid and will not expose you to risk. Foolhardiness is not a virtue - even in Christians!

Food in Israel is delicious and it presents no problem to the European palate! The self-service Israeli breakfast is world-renowned! A light lunch at mid-day is all you need because we have a full three-course Dinner to look forward to each evening. Breakfast and Evening Dinner are included in the cover price, but not lunch: and it is requested that visitors should resist the temptation to remove food from the hotel dining rooms to make up a packed lunch! Believe us - it has been known!

In-flight meals If you wish to have vegetarian meals during the flights, you need to state it clearly on the Booking Form. Your request will be passed to the airline but we cannot be held responsible if they fail to meet your request.

Medical needs are well provided for in Israel. A doctor is on call at each hotel we use and every town has a high-class Pharmacy. It is important to tell your own GP that you intend to visit Israel because he may recommend some injections. They need to be administered around two months ahead of the tour, so be sure to inform your GP in good time. If your health is less than normal, you owe it to the group to have your condition checked by your GP. Please do not travel if there is a risk that your state of health might jeopardise the welfare of the tour group. If you are a diabetic or coeliac it will present no problem in the hotels, but you must let us know at the time of booking.

Smoking can be unpleasant to other members of the group, so we ask smokers to refrain from smoking in the coach and at the meal table.

"Will we have opportunities for fellowship?" Yes, of course! We shall be together much of the time so prayer and Bible study occur throughout the day at the locations we visit. Although we seek to glorify the Lord God of Israel and our Lord Jesus Christ throughout the tour, non-believers that come on the tours are never made to feel "got at": we do not believe in "ramming the Bible down people's throats". We do not need to: God's Word speaks for itself - especially when we are in the actual locations where the words of Scripture were spoken and the deeds performed! However, Lindy and I, Barry and Carol are available at any time to answer questions and to speak with folks about spiritual matters.

Dress Code needs a mention. At religious sites it is appropriate to cover shoulders and knees. A wrap-over skirt and scarf for the women and a pair of light-weight trousers for the men provide the simple answer. These can be kept in the coach and slipped on over your lighter clothes where necessary. We'll tell you when!

Price surcharges! In the event of major increase in the value of the US dollar, or yet more increase in the price of fuel, the hotels and airline may well increase their prices. Be assured that any surcharge will be entirely due to these two causes and not to us. Our profit margin will not be increased. That is our guarantee to you.

Holiday and Medical Insurance is obligatory. You will not be able to travel without it. We are able to advise you on Travel Insurance but if you decide to use your own Holiday Insurance Company make sure you are adequately covered. Cheap deals are not always good deals! You will be required to provide the name of your Insurance Company and the Policy Number when you pay the final balance. If the tour is cancelled due to Foreign Office advice, you will lose your Deposit (£300). We will normally cancel a tour only if the British Foreign Office advises it.

Cut off point! If you book within ten weeks of departure you will be asked to pay the whole amount "up front". We anticipate large numbers, but in order to keep the group as intimate as possible, we are not prepared to use more than one coach. So to avoid disappointment we strongly recommend early booking. Let's summarize:

Be sure to indicate which tour you are booking for by adding the Key letter (A,B,C or D) and the Tour date printed at the top of each Itinerary. Please pay by cheque made payable to "C L BIBLE TOURS".

So, there it is. The trip of a lifetime? We think so. Are our tours really as good as people say they are? There is only one way to find out - come and see! Hundreds of others have done it and many of them return with us - some have been five times! So pray about it and if the Lord says "Go!" give three cheers, jump up and down and book!

May the Lord God of Israel guide your decision

Shalom!

Chris and Lindy

Day 1 Sunday
Journey to Israel
Leave London Heathrow on our daytime flight to Tel Aviv, and be taken to our first hotel by the Mediterranean Sea.

After breakfast we shall visit Caesarea Maritima, the Roman garrison city where Paul was imprisoned. We leave the Mediterranean and head eastwards to Megiddo, the chariot city of Solomon and Ahab. Then to Mount Carmel to see the place where Elijah the prophet called down fire from heaven. Crossing the Valley of Armageddon we shall spend time in Nazareth, visiting the ancient synagogue where our Lord preached His great sermon at the start of His ministry. Then to the reconstructed biblical village in the grounds of the YMCA. Later in the afternoon we shall continue eastwards, through Cana and down to the glorious Sea of Galilee and our lovely lakeside hotel.

Our day will start with a visit to Bethsaida, home of several of the Lord's disciples. Then to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. We shall go down to the lakeshore to visit the place where the Lord recommissioned Peter. Then to Capernaum, centre of Jesus' ministry and scene of many miracles. After lunch at Tiberias, we shall cross the lake in a wooden boat and land at Ginosar to see the remains of an ancient fishing boat, dating from the time of Jesus.

Day 4 Wednesday
The Golan Heights
As we leave our hotel we shall view the remains of tombs at Gadara where the Lord ministered to Legion. Continuing south down the Jordan Valley and then westwards we shall ascend to Jerusalem, viewing the city from Mt Scopus.

Day 6 Friday

Our first visit in Jerusalem takes us to the heart of the matter: the Western (Wailing) Wall. We shall go down to the southern entrance to the Temple Mount to see the steps where Jesus taught the disciples and the pools where the first Christians may have been baptized on the Day of Pentecost. We shall walk along the famous "tunnel" that follows the ancient road that Jesus took as he was taken to face Pilate. Crossing the Kidron Valley we shall visit the House of the High Priest, where Caiaphas abused Jesus. Today is a day full of natural wonders and an encounter with the Pioneers of the State of Israel. We shall cross the Wilderness areas of Zin and Paran, through which Moses led the Children of Israel! We shall visit the Small Crater (Mahtesh Hagadol) with its amazing, coloured rocks and then see the kibbutz where David ben Gurion, first Prime Minister of Israel, made his home in the desert. Continuing south we shall see the stunning Avdat Gorge and watch mountain goats scrambling across perpendicular heights! As we continue southwards we cross the immense Ramon Crater (Mahtesh Ramon), a true marvel of creation, before going down the Arava Road to our splendid hotel in the Red Sea town of Eilat.

Day 12 Thursday
From the depths to the heights!
Our first morning in Eilat will include a visit to the Coral World Underwater Observatory to see the tropical splendours of the Red Sea. Then we shall take a short drive north into the Timna Valley to see evidence of copper mining from before the days of Solomon and marvel at the huge rocky structures carved by wind erosion. Our visit will include a visit to see the reconstruction of the Tabernacle in the Wilderness.

Day 13 Friday
"The rose-red city, half as old as Time!"
So wrote the poet J W Burgon when describing Petra, pearl of Jordan's archaeological treasures. We shall spend the entire day in Jordan and several hours in Petra itself. You will never forget your visit to Petra, this unique city carved in the solid rock!

Day 14 Saturday
Cruising on the Red Sea!
What a joy! Where better to enjoy a cruise than on the Red Sea! A day to relax and set us up for our return home!

Day 15 Sunday
Homeward bound!
Fly over the desert from Eilat to Tel Aviv for our connecting flight back to London.

Day 16 Monday
Home!
Think about the tour all day and during the evening write to Chris and Lindy about going again!

What people say about us

Here is a selection of quotes from letters of appreciation received following the 2007 tours.

"I have wanted to go to Israel for many years and God turned my dream into reality. We were blessed by your teaching, Chris and by Batya (such a knowledgeable Guide) and so well looked after by Lindy, Barry and Carol, not to mention the safe driving by Dudi … we were so blessed by every minute: we talk about it every day!" G & S T, South Woodham Ferrers

"Although we went out 14 years ago with _____ … we covered so much this time that we were not able to then. You helped to open our eyes afresh to many of the Scriptures … we have so many wonderful memories and are so grateful to you. We will certainly be promoting "C L Tours"! Rev L & M D, Coalville

"Apart from all the sites, sounds and smells of Israel, the highlight of the whole tour was the wonderful teaching from the Word of God at the various sites we visited … it was unforgettable … we shall certainly be telling everyone about it, and we would encourage you, Chris, to go on with the proclamation of the Word of God which is so lacking in these dark days." E & C S, Bedford

"'Thank you' does not seem enough for the wonderful time you gave us all in Israel. What a brilliant, godly team you are … there are so many 'best moments': one being that my brother-in-law came back to faith … thank you for your part in that." C T, Somerton

"I want to say a big thank you for a wonderful tour … I am so grateful to God for blessing me so much … I enjoyed the teaching and you made the Bible come alive" J R, Enfield

"… the land in which the Son of God was born and in which he walked, preached and did so many wonderful things, ending in his gracious atonement for our sins. You made it all come alive … I will never forget that Communion Service on the shores of Galilee where Peter was restored" J M, Arbroath

" … I thank the dear Lord for guiding me to CL Bible Tours." M M, Wigan
