Basic beliefs WE BELIEVE
- That God is One and He is three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
each discernible from the others and yet co-equal and identified with them.
- That
the doctrine of "the Trinity" (outlined above) is clearly expressed in the Bible,
and is basic to a correct understanding of the character of God.
- That while
all life flows out from the Creator, He reveals Himself in the Bible as masculine,
not feminine. He is Father, He is Son, and He is Spirit, and always reveals Himself
as "He".
- That the Bible reveals God as Sovereign, and also that man has free
will.
- That the Bible reveals both the love and the justice of God in perfect
balance in both Old and New Testaments.
- In the Divine inspiration of the Bible,
and its consistent, entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters
of faith and conduct.
- In the universal sinfulness and guilt of fallen man,
and that Hell is the ultimate punishment for unregenerate mankind. Apart from
the sovereign act of conviction brought about by the Holy Spirit in response to
the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, man is incapable of responding
to God in repentance and therefore cannot be saved.
- In the substitutionary
sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God, as the sole and all-sufficient
ground of redemption from the guilt and power of sin and from its eternal consequences.
- In the justification of the sinner solely by the love of God through faith
in Christ crucified and raised from the dead.
- In the illuminating, regenerating,
indwelling, empowering and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, and that in consequence,
Biblical holiness is the required standard for every believer.
- In the priesthood
of all believers, who form the universal church, the body of Christ. Jesus Christ
is the Head of the true Church, which is committed by His command to the proclamation
of the Gospel throughout the world. Much of the visible church is not the true
church, because it proclaims and believes a "gospel" which is less (or more) than
the Biblical Gospel. This constitutes the "apostate" church, which will become
increasingly defined at the End Time.
- In the glorious, visible, return of
Jesus Christ in power and glory to set up His Kingdom on the earth and subsequently
to usher in the close of the age and the opening of Heaven to all believers.
Particular
theological beliefs. WE BELIEVE
- That the true and
Biblical Gospel is laid down in the New Testament. Acts 2:22-36 states it precisely.
Any attempt to proclaim a "gospel" which omits any part of this, or which adds
to it, is to that extent other than the Biblical truth, and should be recognised
as "another gospel".
- That the Bible is clear on the identity of Israel as
Israel and the Church as the Church. We maintain that God has a purpose for Israel
as a nation which is distinct from His purpose for the Church. However, we believe
that the way in which a Jew becomes a believer in Jesus Christ is in every respect
identical to that in which a Gentile becomes a believer.
- That holiness of
lifestyle is binding upon every Christian from the moment of new birth, and that
only "overcomers" will share in the first Resurrection and administer Christ's
Kingdom reign on earth.
- That because Jesus Christ is revealed in the Old Testament
as well as the New, the Hebrew language history and godly traditions are important
factors to a full understanding and appreciation of our faith.
